Facilities Management advise that smoky conditions around the campus result from a controlled burn-off at Bottle Lake Forest (10km northeast of the city) that is having a larger than expected impact on the city.
This is an ongoing burn-off that commenced on 26 March and is scheduled to be completed around 16 April.
The material being burned can cause irritation for some, so please be mindful and considerate of your colleagues and fellow students. From an H&S perspective, we recommend:
If your respiratory system is compromised, or weakened, we recommend covering up and wearing a mask if you must be outdoors and talk to your lecturers or Taurima if you have any concerns.
