Physical Activity and Wellbeing

Introduction

Physical Activity and Wellbeing studies in the Bachelor of Sport teaches you how to inspire people to move more and improve their physical and mental health. An active lifestyle can prevent major public health issues such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and mental health disorders.

Explore ways of helping others make healthy choices and improve opportunities and access to sports and physical activities.

What will my study involve?

  • Learn how to educate others on caring for their physical health and the benefits this has on the body and mind.
  • Develop methods in motivating ourselves to engage in recreational exercise, outdoor adventure, training regimes, and more.
  • Practical experiences working with diverse groups and in encouraging more equitable practices in sporting and health industries.

Physical Activity and Wellbeing major

Bachelor of Sport

Complete the compulsory courses for the Bachelor of Sport, along with the following major courses:

Physical Activity and Wellbeing minor

For the minor in the Bachelor of Arts, Commerce, Digital Screen, Product Design, Psychological Science, Science, Social and Environmental Sustainability, Sport, or Youth and Community Leadership, complete the following courses:

For the minor in the Bachelor of Health, choose 75 points  from the following courses, with at least 45 points above 100-level:

Career opportunities

Alongside skills in managing, coaching, and educating others on physical wellbeing, this study also gives you the tools to work towards promoting a healthier Aotearoa on a wider scale.

This kind of expertise could lead to a wide range of careers working with everyday exercises through to professional athletes, or even with sporting or health industry management and programme coordinators.

Career pathways could include:

  • sports coordinator
  • personal trainer
  • health educator
  • sports psychologist.
