Better Start Literacy Approach (BSLA) is based at the University of Canterbury and delivers teacher PLD all over Aotearoa.
The BSLA programme is led by Director and founder Professor Gail Gillon. Our wider team includes researchers, literacy specialists, facilitators and advisors.
We are part of the Child Well-being Research Insitute.
The program has not only enriched my professional growth but also created a lasting impact on my students’ learning journeys. This has been a fulfilling and transformative experience as a kaiako.
BSLA has completely transformed my teacher pedagogy not only in literacy but all curriculum areas.
I was worried my child may have dyslexia as she was struggling to pick up with reading, but even after a few weeks of the Better Start Literacy Approach she is making great progress. She loves to read the new books coming home – I am so relieved!
