“As the literacy lead in the school I saw the Microcredential as a great opportunity to develop my love of literacy further and understand the Better Start Literacy Approach first hand to then share with others in our school and our community,” says Rebecca Macer.
“The support received during the course has been outstanding, through my facilitator Sue Hennessey and the Zoom calls we have had. On the release days we have met as a team of four teachers with Sue to go over the implementation and start of BSLA. The resources are great and add so much to the reinforcement of what we are learning.”
Rebecca says the children are really enjoying the Ready to Read – Phonics Plus books and the game-based activities.
“The children are very familiar with the characters and this has created high interest in the next book. They are just growing in confidence with every lesson and are asking ‘when are we doing reading?’
“I think that they are more enthusiastic and motivated with reading and love learning the new games and teaching other tamariki in their class as well. Their vocab has increased a great deal.
“It is a great straightforward programme to establish a great foundation for the tamariki’s futureliteracy learning.”
