Dr Mark LaVenia is a Senior Lecturer at the Child Well-being Research Institute at the University of Canterbury. He is the National BSLA Assessment Co-ordinator and lead for teacher PLD in monitoring students’ literacy progress.
Dr LaVenia has a teaching background in special education and PLD literacy facilitation for primary school teachers in Florida USA. He has extensive experience in education measurement and research design. He worked for several years evaluating the effectiveness of education interventions.
Since 2024 he has supported the design and development work for our BSLA PLD in structured literacy teaching and assessments.
