Professor Sally Clendon is a leader in Speech Language Therapy at Massey University Institute of Education. Prof Clendon leads the BSLA PLD in structured literacy teaching (Years 0-8) in areas related to supporting children with complex communication needs.
Prof Clendon is an international expert in accelerating literacy for children with complex communication and learning needs, particularly those who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). She has extensive knowledge of the New Zealand curriculum including oral language and early literacy learning progressions.
She is highly experienced in designing and delivering quality professional learning and development in structured literacy assessment and teaching practices to teachers both in New Zealand and internationally.
Since 2021 Professor Clendon has contributed to the Better Start Literacy Approach PLD in supporting teachers understand how to adapt teaching and assessment practices for children with complex learning needs.
