Answers to the frequently asked questions about BSLA's Structured Literacy PLD.
This PLD stream supports teachers to implement structured literacy instruction across Years 0–8, aligned with the New Zealand curriculum. The focus is on teachers working at Tier 1/classroom level teaching. The Ministry of Education (MoE) funds cohorts of teachers to complete this PLD.

A blended model across three terms: 3 days of workshops (online, in-person and hybrid options), 8 x online Communities of Practice, and online self-directed learning modules. See our workshop options for details.
There are three learning streams available as part of this PLD:
- Teachers of year 0-3/4 students
- Teachers of year 4-8 students
- Literacy leaders
Attend 3 days of workshops and 8 Community of Practice sessions; complete two quizzes; and implement structured literacy teaching or leadership in your context.
Certificate of Proficiency in BSLA Structured Literacy (15 postgraduate points).

Your school applies for MoE funding and once this has been approved and an ARN number provided, you can then select BSLA as provider.
